India-based retail chain Reliance Retail accepts Digital Rupee as payment

Reliance Retail, one of India's largest retail chains, announced that they have started accepting digital rupees in one of their store lines. Reliance Retail has partnered with ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and fintech company Innoviti Technologies to offer CBDC payment support. Consumers who opt to pay with digital rupees receive a QR code in-store to complete their payment.

Reliance Retail noted that it plans to roll this out to all its businesses going forward, a move that could advance the adoption of the country's CBDC.
